2021-06-26 Rerun commentary: Canadian educator Laurence J. Peter published a book in 1969 titled The Peter Principle, in which he explained his theory that people in a job tend to "rise to their level of incompetence".

The idea is that if a person performs competently at their current job, they get promoted, and take on new responsibilities. If they do well with that, they get promoted again, and so on. Until they reach a level where they take on responsibilities that they can no longer fully manage, at which point they are now incompetent for the job they have.

The general idea has been raised many times by various researchers and commenters, as well as being debated and disputed by some.

It really would explain a lot about the world, though.
