2 Mordekai: The tavern is burnt to the ground! It's a smoking ruin!
3 Kyros: Good lord! What sort of depraved people would do a thing like that?!
4 GM: You hear a lynch mob approaching...

2013-11-20 Rerun commentary: The smoke rising from the ruined tavern is painted in with a brush with grey colour and partial fill parameter, so it appears pixelly and see-through.

The joke here, if it's not entirely clear on first reading, is explained in the next strip in this theme. So I shall refrain from further explanation here.
