New comics Mon-Fri; reruns Sat-Sun
|
1 Monty: Here’s our room. Hmm, the door’s a bit shoddy.
1 Prof. Jones: Ooh, a mini-bar.
2 Monty: {examining the door} The lock’s broken.
3 Monty: Aha. If I can just drill a small hole through here I should be able to fix it.
4 Monty: I need a gimlet.
4 Prof. Jones: {by the mini-bar} Well there’s plenty of lime juice, but unfortunately no gin.

This is an inversion of one of my all-time favourite IWC comics: #995.
I needed to find the name of another cocktail which is also an item that Monty might plausibly need for some reason. A gimlet is a small hand tool used for boring holes in things, and a gimlet is a cocktail made with gin and lime juice.
I originally had the punchline the other way around, mimicking the original screwdriver strip, with Professor Jones saying there was plenty of gin but unfortunately no lime juice, but I switched it for two reasons: Firstly, being a cheap hotel it's more likely to have fruit juice than a bottle of gin in the room. And secondly, he's holding a green bottle, which makes a bit more sense if it's lime juice.
