Comic #531

1 Vader: {gesturing at Luke} There is no escape. Don't make me destroy you. Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father.
2 Luke: {hanging on to the gantry over a huge pit with his remaining hand} He told me enough! He told me you killed him!
3 Vader: No, I am your father.
4 Vader: Now, go clean your room.
4 Luke: Noooooo!

2013-07-10 Rerun commentary: It's a pretty obvious gag, and I wouldn't at all be surprised if somebody did it before me.

The gaping pit Luke is dangling over is actually just a black clipboard, on which the LEGO set is directly placed. You can see diffuse reflections in its surface and a slight gradation of colour. A very cheap effect but mostly pretty effective. (Until I point out how it's done and it becomes so obvious that you can't unsee it any more.)
