1 Prof. Jones: It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.
2 Monty: Hmmm?
3 Prof. Jones: I’m going to order one of every dessert on the menu, and follow up with a glass of brandy.
4 Prof. Jones: And then retire to my cabin and sleep the miles away, rocked by the gentle clickety clack of the train.

One can see that a lot of time has passed since the previous strip in this theme because it's now the black of night outside the train window. Professor Jones has also spent so much time eating the main course/s of his dinner that he's had time to recite an entire book.
In the original line, the "far, far better rest" is the embrace of death. I think sleeping on a train is slightly better.
