Comic #3936

1 Monty: But good news. Miss Thoroughgood's telegram has arrived.
2 Monty: "Doctor Smith excavating Abydos, stop."
3 Prof. Jones: Abydos! Upper Egypt! Of course! The Great Temple of Osiris! Osiris was patron of the city! Where else would his crook be?
4 Minnesota Jones: You know, we might have been able to get a head start on tracking down this ancient Egyptian artefact by, I dunno, heading to Egypt a week ago?

Abydos is the site of one of the most ancient cities in Egypt, inhabited since the pre-dynastic period. The very first pharaohs of the earliest Egyptian dynasties were buried there. The city contains many important archaeological burial sites, as well as extant above-ground construction, including the Great Osiris Temple, the Temple of Seti I (a pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty, and father of Ramesses II), and the Temple of Ramesses II (a.k.a. Ramesses the Great).

Note: This story arc was not inspired by Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, which I just found out (about 30 seconds ago as I type this) was a thing that exists, while doing research for writing this annotation.
