Comic #3595

1 Jane Goodall: So you'll be here in, what, a few hours? By supersonic jet?
2 Simon: Oh goodness no... we won't be flying. Generates too much CO2, and climate change is one of the most serious existential threats we face.
3 Jane Goodall: So...?
3 Simon: Just checking the train schedules...
4 Simon: Well. We'll need to take elephants from Sudan to Uganda... We can be there in six weeks or so.

There have been grand plans to build a railway the length of Africa, from Cape Town to Cairo, since the 19th century. Unfortunately, African colonial and post-colonial politics being what it is, this plan never came to fruition, and there remains a large uncompleted section between the railway networks of the northern continent and that of the southern half of Africa.
