True!
Isaac Newton went a bit batty in his older days, and became increasingly obsessed with the occult and gleaning literal meanings out of the Bible. By applying various numerical calculations to dates given in the Bible, Newton concluded that the prophesied Rapture and end of the world at the hand of God could not occur earlier than the year 2060. He noted:
This I mention not to assert when the time of the end shall be, but to put a stop to the rash conjectures of fanciful men who are frequently predicting the time of the end, and by doing so bring the sacred prophesies into discredit as often as their predictions fail.It seems Doomsday prophets were getting things woefully wrong way back at the turn of the 18th century as well. Some things never change.
At least we can all relax now and enjoy at least another 49 years of scientifically verified existence before we have to worry about any of them even potentially being correct! This has been a public service announcement.
