We haven't seen Cthulhu make an appearance since way back in #1548 (if you don't count the Christmas special strip #1793).

2020-03-01 Rerun commentary: That third panel looks like Steve is wading in hip-deep mud at the edge of the loch. Which might not be too far off the truth in some places. Although I can't speak authoritatively as I haven't personally done a survey of the entire coastline of Loch Ness. Some research is just a tad too much, even for this comic.
