Comic #1695

1 {scene: A dirty alleyway.}
1 Serron: {poking his head up out of a garbage skip} Hmmm. We're in an alley. Where are our future selves?
1 Iki Piki: They must still be operating on them.
2 Serron: This is great! We can race to a nearby hospital to get replacement organs implanted before we die!
3 Iki Piki: Yeah, but I think my splanch is missing.
3 Serron: So?
4 Iki Piki: Do you know anything about the anatomy of my species?
4 Serron: You know, I don't think I want to...

Wow. I invented the word "splanch" as a sort of cross between spleen (the funniest organ name, by far) and splanchnic nerves (which I first learned about from Futurama - see, TV is educational).

And it turns out that splanch is a word. Apparently it's a style of house architecture. Why they named it after a fictional alien body organ is beyond me.

Scott writes:
Splanchnic nerves are so named because the root "splanch" comes from a Greek word meaning "guts". When I first read this comic, I thought that was a clever name for an alien organ.

Cleverer than you suspected, it seems.
