2016-12-17 Rerun commentary: This shocking revelation would only have come as a surprise to people who don't read the comic annotations, since it was revealed beforehand, way back in the original annotation for #1324, some six months before this strip was published.

At the time, it was actually just a silly throw-away attempt at a joke, and for a while I forgot about it. Until the time when strip 1500 was approaching, and I think someone on the forums pointed out that we already knew what had to happen in strip 1500, because of the revelation in 1324. It was only then that I decided to actually follow through with it and concocted this whole storyline of Loren being a Martian agent.

I have to say, getting a sleeper agent undetected into the US Government is probably the most competent thing these Martians have ever done.
