The background is a photo I took myself, in Switzerland, on the real Lake Constance. I was travelling by ferry from Friedrichshafen in Germany to Romanshorn in Switzerland. The church tower you can see in the background (which I've blurred to give the effect of distance in the comic) is a major landmark in the town of Romanshorn.
